A tragic incident unfolded as footballer Sodiq Adebisi passed away after collapsing during a training session at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
Reports indicated that while engaging in training alongside other footballers on Saturday, the 34-year-old suddenly fell during the session.
Witnessing the distressing event, his teammates swiftly transported him to a state hospital in Ijebu-Ode in an urgent attempt to seek medical assistance.
Despite the dedicated efforts of the hospital’s medical team, Sodiq was tragically pronounced deceased on the same day he was admitted.
Following protocol, the deceased’s body was transferred to the state mortuary in Ijebu-Ode.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, verified the occurrence on Tuesday. Additionally, it was disclosed that Ganiyu Adebisi, the deceased footballer’s brother, had approached the Igbeba Police Division to arrange for the release of the body for burial.
“The brother came to report the incident at our Igbeba division. The family said they don’t want any investigation and that they wanted to bury the deceased according to Islamic rite,” Odutola stated.
