On Monday, the Kaduna State Government acknowledged receiving briefings regarding the Tudun Biri village attack. Major VU Okoro, General Officer Commanding One Division of the Nigerian Army, clarified that while the military was engaged in a routine mission against terrorists, members of the community were inadvertently affected.
Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner overseeing the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, released a statement on Monday. The statement highlighted a meeting chaired by Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, attended by security agency heads, religious and traditional leaders, where the Nigerian Army explained the circumstances surrounding the regrettable and unintended attack.
Following the closed-door meeting, the Deputy Governor conveyed the Government and People of Kaduna State’s condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. She also offered prayers for the souls of the victims.
“As of the time of this update, search-and-rescue efforts are still ongoing, as dozens of injured victims have been evacuated to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital by the Government.” It said
The statement named the heads of security agencies that attended the meeting to include; the Commissioner of Police, M.Y Garba, and Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) Abdul Eneche. The Chairman of the Kaduna State Chapter of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) Professor Shafi’u Abdullahi, led other religious leaders.
Also present at the meeting was the District of Rigasa, Aminu Idris in whose domain the incident occurred.
