Kogi butchers suspend members over alleged cattle rustling

On Monday, the Kogi State Butchers Development Association declared the suspension of certain members due to alleged cattle theft and other actions against the union’s principles.

Speaking to reporters in Lokoja, Idi Ibrahim, the association’s chairman, revealed that a meeting led to a decision to suspend Dodun Akuya and others involved in the reported rustling of three cows belonging to Fulani herdsmen.

Ibrahim affirmed the association’s commitment to taking firm action against any member found engaging in misconduct. He emphasized that the union adamantly opposes the sale of meat from stolen cattle in the market.

“Immediately we got the information we setup a committee which investigated whether any of our members were involved in the alleged cattle rustling and sell of beef of rustled cows to our customers and to also ascertain whether any of our members is involved directly or otherwise in aiding the sell of such beef to innocent customers.

“At the end of committee investigation, it was revealed that some members were involved and immediately we suspended them indefinitely,” Ibrahim said.

Furthermore, he reassured the public of the union’s dedication to ensuring safety standards, particularly concerning the availability of healthy beef within the market.
