Just In: ATBU Police teargas students protesting killing of undergraduate by robbers

Tension flared up on Monday at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University’s Yelwa Campus in Bauchi when protesting students, agitated by the killing of a fellow student, faced teargas from Nigeria Police Force officers.

Earlier reports indicated the students’ intention to peacefully protest following the tragic stabbing of Joseph Agabaidu, a final-year Geology student, during a robbery incident that occurred on Saturday night.

The incident took place as Agabaidu was returning to his lodge near Yelwan Tudu Market in the Yelwa area of Bauchi metropolis around 7:00 pm, resulting in fatal injuries that led to his death.

The students’ protest on Monday was met with police intervention, deploying armored vehicles near the school gate. This action prompted the students to block the gate, disrupting campus activities.

Efforts by authorities to calm the situation were met with resolute solidarity chants from the protesting students, escalating the tension further.
