Residents of Maganda Village, which is located in Magajin Gari Ward III of Kaduna State’s Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, have fled their houses following the pullout of security forces stationed in the region.
According to reports, some residents fled for fear of being attacked by bandits who had terrorized the areas for years.
Residents claim that security troops assigned to safeguard the villagers abruptly left the region last Saturday, generating uncertainty among the people.
Ismail A. Ahmed, a former councilman who evacuated his wife and children from the neighborhood, stated that as soon as the security men departed, the bandits attacked the community, going from house to house to steal people’s phones and money.
He said most villagers have abandoned their houses, leaving behind their farm crops and other belongings.
“I left with my family because we are not safe. Most people left their crops behind and left with minimal belongings to save their lives because the bandits entered house after house, confiscating phones and money from people,” he said.
Ishaq Usman Kasai, Chairman of Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressive Union (BEPU), confirmed the incident and appealed to the government, particularly the military authorities to promptly redeploy their personnel to the area to protect the innocent villagers.
