Tinubu targets one million jobs for Nigerians

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has set its sights on generating one million job opportunities for Nigerians through the National Talent Export Programme (NATEP).

During the closing ceremony of NATEP 2023 in Abuja, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite, revealed this goal on Thursday. She emphasized the government’s commitment to achieving this objective within four years.

Uzoka-Anite highlighted one of the strategies, the National Artisan Registration and Development Programme (NARDEP), designed to equip artisans with essential technical and vocational skills. The program aims to certify Nigerian artisans according to global standards while facilitating their placement in internship programs with industry partners.

“NARDEP will drive the actualization of the National Talent Export Programme (NATEP), which is expected to deliver one million service export jobs over the next five years; increase foreign exchange earnings and revenue for Nigeria; create and stimulate the growth of ancillary industries and support services and; improve skills amongst others”, she said.

President Tinubu underscored job creation as one of his key priorities in his address during the presentation of the 2024 budget of 27.5 trillion at the National Assembly on Wednesday.
