The safety of passengers in the Nigerian aviation industry has been a cause for concern following some recent incidents. In response to this, Festus Keyamo, the Nigerian Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has called for an emergency meeting with the heads of regulatory agencies.
The meeting will involve a comprehensive review of the recent incidents to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent future occurrences. The minister expressed his concern about the safety of passengers and the need to apply sanctions where necessary regarding past incidents.
One of the recent incidents that raised concerns was the cancellation of domestic flights en route to Abuja due to an aircraft blocking the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The aircraft, which left Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, developed a fault upon arrival in Abuja and could not be moved for hours.
Consequently, flights from Sokoto, Kano, Akure, and Ibadan were cancelled, and some from the southeast region were rescheduled for later times.
