‘I don’t drink alcohol, trying to quit smoking’ – Charly Boy

Renowned singer Charles Oputa, widely recognized as Charly Boy, revealed that he abstains from consuming alcohol. He mentioned ongoing efforts to break free from smoking, acknowledging the challenges he faces in overcoming the addiction.

During a recent interview with actress Iyabo Ojo, the unconventional singer confessed to occasionally indulging in alcoholic wine but clarified that he doesn’t make it a habitual practice.

At 73 years old, Charly Boy attributed his fitness to both genetic predisposition and his chosen lifestyle. He highlighted the longevity of his parents and grandparents as a contributing factor to his health and well-being.

He said, “I was lucky enough to form the habit of always going to the gym and looking after my physical wellbeing. You know, people in the [entertainment] industry a lot of things are speculated about them. But I don’t drink. I’ve never drank [alcohol] in my life. Except you add small wine to it sometimes when I feel like socializing [laughs].

“I’m trying to give up my nicotine [smoking] habit. Because it’s really not good for me. The longest I’ve abstained I think was about seven years. I’ve been having battles with it back and forth. I quit sometimes, I come back.”
