Sheikh Sani Mohammed Jangebe, a highly respected Islamic cleric, has tendered his resignation from the esteemed position of Chief Imam.
His decision was communicated through a formal letter addressed to the mosque’s management committee and subsequently shared with the press in Gusau, the state capital, last Friday.
In his missive, he pledged continued support and dedication to the mosque’s advancement and the flourishing of the Islamic faith in both the state and the nation.
During an interview with journalists, Jangebe elaborated on the reason behind his resignation, citing a circulated video clip where he was captured offering prayers for Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence and former governor of Zamfara State. He clarified that similar prayers were also extended to Governor Dauda Lawal during his campaign.
The viral nature of the video clip on social media triggered diverse reactions from political figures and religious communities within the state, prompting Jangebe’s decision to step down.
It’s noteworthy that Jangebe previously served as the Commissioner for Religious Affairs for three terms in Zamfara State.
