The Abuja-based Court of Appeal upheld the election victory of Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya on Thursday.
Inuwa Yahaya, who secured 342,821 votes according to the Independent National Electoral Commission, was declared the winner of the governorship election, surpassing his closest rival, Jibrin Barde of the Peoples Democratic Party, who received 233,131 votes.
The PDP, dissatisfied with the election’s outcome, contended that Yahaya did not secure the majority of lawful votes and alleged instances of multiple thumb printing and ballot box stuffing across nine out of the state’s 11 local government areas to favor Yahaya.
Despite the PDP’s claims, the election petition tribunal dismissed their petition. Unhappy with this decision, the PDP candidate and the party took their case to the appellate court.
However, the Court of Appeal, in its ruling on Thursday, dismissed the appeal brought by the PDP candidate and the party.
