NYSC warns foreign institutions against mobilising fake graduates

Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), emphasized the organization’s commitment to preventing unqualified individuals from participating in the National Service.

He reiterated that the NYSC program’s primary goal is to shape Nigerian youths toward national unity and development. This involves instilling core values such as discipline, honesty, integrity, accountability, diligence, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance.

During his address at the meeting of NYSC Management with several Corps Producing Institutions in Africa, themed ‘Tackling the Emerging Challenges in Mobilization of Foreign-Trained Graduates For Effective National Service,’ held in Abuja on Wednesday, Ahmed highlighted the Corps’ mission.

He noted a concern where certain educational institutions prioritize financial gains over producing well-rounded graduates aligned with the NYSC ideals. This trend, according to Ahmed, undermines the creation of graduates who embody both exceptional character and academic prowess.

“It is expected that, from 2024 Batch ‘A’ service year, the collection of the master list of graduates would be extended to schools in Niger Republic, Cameroun, Ghana, and Uganda, which constitutes about 20% of graduates from the African continent.

*The exercise would be extended to cover countries identified with high vulnerability to faking of academic and travel documents”, he said.
