Rivers Organised Labor Orders Affiliates to Withdraw Services on Nov 14

Rivers Organised Labor Commits to Adhering to NLC and TUC Joint Decisions. Following the NLC and TUC joint statement mandating affiliate unions to initiate a nationwide shutdown, the Rivers State labor, led by NLC and TUC state chairpersons, Alex Agwanwor and Ikechukwu Onyefuru, announces strict adherence to the directive.

The decision stems from the federal government’s perceived inadequate response to various demands, prompting the withdrawal of services starting on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, to advocate for improved working conditions.

Organised labour in Rivers State said a task force to monitor the compliance of all unions is also in force and reminded workers that “injury to one is an injury to all.”

The statement partly reads: “Sequel to the joint decision of the National Executive Council (NEC) Meeting of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) held on the 7th of November, 2023, declaring a nationwide industrial action with effect from Tuesday, 14 November 2023.”
