EPL: Guardiola Reflects on 4-4 Draw, Explains Why Beating Chelsea 7-0 Was Not Achievable

Following the 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola addressed the notion that his team was expected to secure a substantial victory against Chelsea, describing such expectations as “wrong.” Guardiola acknowledged the heightened motivation among opposing teams to defeat Manchester City, emphasizing the club’s status as a challenging opponent.

Reflecting on the match, Guardiola expressed satisfaction with his players for maintaining high standards, even after achieving the Treble in the previous season. The draw against Chelsea highlighted the competitive nature of the Premier League and served as a reminder that every match presents a unique challenge, regardless of past achievements.

“We are top of the league and qualified in the Champions League.

“From where we have come from [last season], when you can tend to be more soft, it is the complete opposite. It hasn’t happened.

“If you expect to come here and win 7-0, you are wrong. Everyone wants to beat us. You say there is nothing to lose for them because if Chelsea loses to City, it’s normal, City is a fantastic team,” Guardiola said.
