Woman slumps during prayer at MFM, dies hours later in hospital’

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a septuagenarian woman, Bisi Adewumi, tragically lost her life during a prayer session at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ibafo, Ogun State. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the importance of emergency preparedness and safety measures in places of worship.

According to the Ogun State Police Command, the distressing incident occurred when Ms. Adewumi, a dedicated member of the church, suddenly collapsed during a prayer session. What initially seemed like a momentary lapse of consciousness quickly turned into a tragic situation, as she failed to regain her strength.

The church’s Head of Security, Pastor Ekikere Esiere, promptly reported the situation to the police. He informed them that, following Ms. Adewumi’s collapse at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, she was immediately rushed to the church’s clinic for urgent medical attention. The church’s swift response to the emergency was commendable, as they prioritized the welfare of their member.

Unfortunately, despite the immediate medical attention and the concerted efforts of those present, Ms. Adewumi’s condition did not improve. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the church decided to transfer her to the Sagamu General Hospital, where she could receive more comprehensive care and evaluation.

Tragically, it was at the Sagamu General Hospital that Bisi Adewumi’s journey came to a heartbreaking end. Despite the tireless efforts of healthcare professionals, she was pronounced dead on the subsequent day while still under medical supervision. The news of her passing left the congregation and community in shock and mourning.

Ogun State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, provided insight into the aftermath of this heart-wrenching incident. He reported that the deceased’s remains were respectfully transferred to the hospital’s morgue while awaiting further instructions and family arrangements. Despite the tragic loss, no immediate relatives of the deceased had come forward to claim her body at the time of reporting.

It is suspected that Bisi Adewumi was approximately 75 years old at the time of her passing, further underscoring the fragility of life and the need for continuous support and vigilance for elderly members of our society.

While the community is left in mourning, it is essential to appreciate the swift actions taken by the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries’ leadership and members in responding to the emergency. Their dedication to the well-being of their congregation was evident throughout this ordeal.

As the investigation into this heartbreaking incident continues, it serves as a somber reminder of the importance of emergency preparedness, safety protocols, and prompt responses in all public spaces, including places of worship. While the circumstances surrounding Bisi Adewumi’s passing remain under scrutiny, her memory will undoubtedly serve as a poignant reminder of the need for compassion and support within our communities, especially for the elderly and vulnerable among us.

In the face of this tragedy, our thoughts and condolences go out to the family, friends, and fellow worshipers of Bisi Adewumi, who are now grappling with the loss of a cherished member of their community.
