The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced that the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Mohammed Barde, will be redeployed ahead of the gubernatorial elections on Saturday. This decision comes after Barde was accused of being partisan by the Labour Party and other stakeholders. The Nigeria Labour Congress also demanded his removal following the attack on its president, Joe Ajaero, in Owerri on Wednesday.
In response to these calls, Egbetokun stated during a Sunday night Channels Television programme that the Nigeria Police Force had finalized plans to redeploy the CP.
According to Egbetokun, “We are aware that there are allegations against the Commissioner of Police in Imo. Before the elections, we are changing the CP.
“This is not to say the CP has been found guilty. But for neutrality’s sake, we are changing the Commissioner of Police in Imo State.”
