Senate screens Tinubu’s electoral commissioner nominees

The Nigerian Senate is presently in the process of evaluating nominees put forward by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to assume the role of Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs). 

There are ten nominees under consideration, and the upper legislative chamber is conducting the screening process. If approved, these individuals will be assigned to different states to carry out their primary responsibilities.

During this process, Senate Leader Michael Bamidele Opeyemi presented the list of nominees and drew the Senate’s attention to Section 154 (1) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.

Opeyemi stated, “The Senate is tasked with considering the confirmation of the following individuals, who have been nominated for the position of Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), in response to the request made by Mr. President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The nominees currently undergoing screening and who have made themselves available on Wednesday are as follows:

1. Mr. Etekamba Umoren – Akwa Ibom

2. Mr. Isah Shaka Ehimeakne – Edo

3. Barr. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola – Ekiti

4. Mr. Abubakar Ahmed Ma’ali – Gombe

5. Mr. Shehu Wahab – Kwara

6. Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindem – Lagos

7. Mr. Aminu Kasimi Idris – Nasarawa

8. Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq – Niger

9. Dr. Anugbum Onuoha – Rivers

10. Mr. Abubakar Fawa Dambo – Zamfara

Following the screening process, the nominees are anticipated to be confirmed by the Committee of the Whole.
