Police probe Rivers assembly drama

The Rivers State Police Command has initiated an inquiry into the security incident that unfolded at the Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday morning.

In a statement shared by the Command on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday afternoon, they declared their commitment to apprehending and bringing to justice those responsible for the security breach.

The statement reads, “The Rivers State Police Command has commenced swift security actions on security situations that occurred at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex. Anyone found wanting will be arrested and Prosecuted. Further development will be communicated to the General Public, please.”

As previously detailed by Iwitnesslive, the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex witnessed gunshots and the deployment of tear gas on Monday as certain legislators convened to initiate the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In addition to Speaker Martin Amaewhule, approximately 23 lawmakers in attendance reached a resolution to initiate the process.

During this session, the legislators also sanctioned the House leader, Edison Ehie, along with a number of their fellow members who were perceived as loyal to the governor.
