Gunmen invaded the Ora Community in Kwara State’s Ifelodun Local Government Area on Saturday, reportedly abducting two women and resulting in the death of one person.
Arriving in the community around 8:45 pm, the abductors indiscriminately fired shots to instill fear before seizing their victims. According to sources within the community, the abductors took two POS operators and injured the husband of one victim while attempting to rescue her. Tragically, another person was killed during the incident.
A source from the community stated, “The incident occurred on Saturday evening around 8:45 pm. Two females were abducted, and a child was also reportedly killed during the process.”
The source also said security men, including soldiers, had been drafted to the community adding “Since last night precisely around 11:30 pm, soldiers arrived Ora vicinity to maintain peace and are already combing surrounding bushes to fish out the criminals and rescue their victims.
“At this point, we sincerely wish to appreciate the prompt response to the SOS message sent to the state authority on the incident. We pray the efforts are successful.”
Transition Implementation Committee Chairman, Ifelodun LGA, Mr. Olajide Asonibare, who confirmed the incident, said over 100 vigilantes, local hunters, policemen, and soldiers have been mobilised to comb the forest for their possible rescue.
The spokesman for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Okasanmi Ajay, also confirmed the incident on Sunday.
“The command in conjunction with other security agencies including the vigilantes and hunters are in hot search to rescue the victims.
“We are also looking forward to arresting the abductors,” he said.
