Tragedy Strikes as Bayelsa APC Media Campaign Director Dies in Boat Accident

Bayelsa State APC Campaign Council’s Media Director, Peremobowei Tukuwei, Tragically Lost in Boat Accident During Campaign Visit
A heart-wrenching incident occurred during the Bayelsa State All Progressives Congress Gubernatorial Campaign Council’s visit to Okoroma in Nembe Local Government Area en route to Ogbia in Ogbia LGA on Wednesday. Peremobowei Tukuwei, the Director of Media and Publicity for the campaign council, lost his life in a boat mishap. Regrettably, he was the sole fatality among the passengers on the ill-fated boat. Tukuwei, hailing from Ekeremor LGA in the state, was a former employee of Africa Independent Television before taking on the role of media and publicity director for the state APC campaign council in preparation for the gubernatorial election scheduled for November 11, 2023.
After extensive search efforts by marine rescue teams and relevant authorities, Tukuwei’s lifeless body was recovered late on Thursday. In response to this tragic event, the state APC chairman, Dennis Otiotio, announced the suspension of campaign activities on Thursday. The statement issued by the council read, ‘The Bayelsa State APC Governorship Campaign Council wishes to announce the suspension of our campaigns scheduled for tomorrow, October 26, 2023, in Nembe-Ogbolomabiri and Nembe-Bassambiri.’

“This is due to an unfortunate boat mishap during our campaigns today. At the moment, a ranking member of staff of our Campaign Council is yet to be accounted for. We have informed relevant authorities and search parties are on top of the situation.

“We will take a day’s break to evaluate the situation before we resume our campaigns on Friday at Ogbolomabiri and Bassambiri before heading to Brass on Saturday and Sunday to conclude the Bayelsa East Campaigns.”

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Peoples Democratic Party Governorship Campaign Council has commiserated with the state APC following the tragic boat incident that resulted in the death of its media and publicity director, Peremobowei Tukuwei.

In a statement signed by the chairman of the publicity directorate, Ayibaina Duba, on Friday, the PDP campaign council also condoled the management and staff of the AIT over the loss of Tukuwei.

It equally extended its condolences to the Tukuwei family of the Ndoro community in the Ekeremor LGA, noting that the state had lost a young man with great potential.

Expressing shock over the tragic loss of the APC campaign media director, the PDP family described Tukuwei as brilliant and resourceful.

“We see how passionately he discharged his media assignments on AIT and during the APC campaigns. It is therefore painful to lose such a brilliant and intellectually sound young man. It is indeed sad that Peremobowei Tukuwei departed at a time when he was just beginning to flourish.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the Tukuwei family, the African Independent Television, and indeed the All Progressives Congress over this unfortunate incident. We pray that the Lord grants his family, his media and political colleagues, and associates the fortitude to bear this loss.”
