Numerous offices of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) are not currently in suitable condition for conducting credible elections, according to a report.
The Chairman of KWSIEC, Okanla Baba, revealed this following an on-site assessment of the Commission’s offices in all 16 local government areas of the state, which was concluded this week.
The tour, conducted by the chairman and members of the electoral body, is part of the Commission’s strategic planning process for ensuring the credibility of local council elections in the state.
Okanla explained that the purpose of the tour was to evaluate the suitability of the Commission’s facilities in alignment with the existing laws, regulations, and standard electoral procedures.
However, he expressed his disappointment, stating that “many of the KWSIEC offices visited across the 16 local government areas are not in adequate condition for the commission’s operations and need refurbishment to ensure credible polls.”
During discussions with KWSIEC staff in various local government areas, Okanla assured that comprehensive renovations would soon be undertaken at the Commission’s offices. He also mentioned that new offices would be established where necessary to facilitate the conduct of popular and credible elections across all 16 local government areas.
Earlier, Okanla and his team had visited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Abuja to seek the support of the national electoral body.
