Arsenal’s head coach, Mikel Arteta, has indicated that David Raya is expected to maintain his position as the starting goalkeeper when they go up against Sevilla in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Raya’s performance was unsteady as the Gunners fought to secure a 2-2 draw against Chelsea last Saturday. The 28-year-old’s questionable positioning contributed to Chelsea’s second goal, which was scored by Mykhailo Mudryk.
Ever since joining Arsenal on loan from Brentford, Raya has faced ongoing scrutiny. Many have expressed bewilderment at Arteta’s choice to acquire him and start him over Aaron Ramsdale. During the match at Stamford Bridge, fans even chanted Ramsdale’s name, calling for his inclusion over Raya.
But Arteta still has great confidence in his fellow Spaniard, saying: “Errors are part of football and mistakes happen, from defenders, from strikers and from goalkeepers for sure.
“For sure not [realistic to expect a change every time]. We will see tomorrow with the line-up.
“All the players available have chances to play and I’m sure that I will not take a decision based on an only action [of the game].”
