Nairametrics forges stronger ties with SEC

As part of a significant stride towards fostering collaboration and advancing financial literacy, the executive team of Nairametrics, a prominent financial news media company based in Nigeria, paid a visit to the Lagos office of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over the weekend.

This meeting brought together key personnel from both organizations, featuring prominent individuals such as Lamido Yuguda, the Director General of SEC, and Ugo Obi-Chukwu, the Chief Executive of Nairametrics.

The meeting’s highlight was the Director General of SEC, Lamido Yuguda, acknowledging and commending Nairametrics for its considerable influence on the capital markets, primarily through its unwavering 24/7 coverage. 

He praised the company for its distinctive writing style, particularly its skill in simplifying intricate financial content, thereby making it accessible to a broad audience. Furthermore, Yuguda lauded Nairametrics for its contributions to enhancing financial literacy.

In response, Mr. Ugo Obi-Chukwu expressed his gratitude to the Securities and Exchange Commission for its dedication to safeguarding and educating investors. He recognized the SEC’s role in promoting the growth of assets under management (AUM) in the capital market and stressed the significance of such initiatives.

During the meeting, the Nairametrics team presented their 2024 plans, including hosting an Investment Fair, launching various financial education initiatives, and driving thought leadership within the financial sector. These endeavors are aimed at enriching the financial landscape in Nigeria.

Yuguda, in his ongoing commitment to investor education and protection, conveyed his enthusiasm for collaborating with Nairametrics to realize these initiatives. He underscored the pivotal role of educating the younger generation in the development of the capital market and how these joint efforts would be instrumental in achieving this objective.

The meeting saw the presence of notable SEC officials, including Umar Daiyabu Kurfi – Director/SA to the DG SEC, Mohammed Bagudu Waziri – Deputy Director and Head of the External Relations Department, and Joy Utubor – Head Corporate Communications. Representing Nairametrics were Tolulope Olateju, Head of Operations and Chief of Staff, and Uade Ahimie, Head of Strategy and Public Affairs.

The collaborative endeavors between Nairametrics and SEC not only promise to bolster financial literacy but also fortify the overall growth of Nigeria’s capital markets. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to advancing the financial sector and ensuring a prosperous future for all investors.
