Troops belonging to the Operation Safe Haven Special Military Task Force, entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining peace in regions spanning Plateau, parts of Bauchi, and Kaduna States, have successfully thwarted the activities of four suspected bandits.
In an official statement issued on Monday in Jos, the Media Officer for the operation, Capt. James Oya confirmed this accomplishment. Furthermore, the troops managed to apprehend 120 individuals who were involved in various criminal activities within the areas under their jurisdiction. This operation took place between October 16 and October 22.
The suspects were taken into custody for various alleged offenses, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cattle rustling, and drug trafficking, among other criminal activities. Additionally, arrests were made for illegally possessing arms and ammunition.
In the course of their duties, the troops also executed a successful rescue operation, liberating four individuals who had been kidnapped—the statement by Capt. Oya detailed the outcomes of this recent security operation, which included the neutralization of four suspected bandits, as well as the apprehension of 73 suspects in possession of arms and ammunition. Additionally, 37 individuals were arrested on charges related to kidnapping. This extensive effort contributes to the ongoing mission to maintain peace and security within the region.
“We rescued four kidnapped victims and arrested two suspected cattle rustlers and four suspected drug peddlers.
“We prevented five attacks on vulnerable communities and promptly responded to 28 distress,” he noted.
The troops, he added, also recovered sophisticated weapons from some of the suspects.
He said some suspects who were arrested for car and motorcycle theft have been handed over to the police for prosecution.
