The Federal Government has successfully repatriated 108 Nigerian migrants who were stranded in Niger Republic. The initiative, aimed at reuniting these individuals with their home country, was announced through a statement released by Mr. Alexander Oturu, the Southwest Zonal Coordinator of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The group of repatriated Nigerians consists of 32 males, 29 females, 44 children, and three infants. These individuals were transported to a designated camp operated by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, where the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have established a tripartite agreement. This arrangement provides temporary shelter for the returnees while they receive the necessary support before continuing their journey to their respective final destinations.
The successful return of these stranded migrants was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Nigerian Mission in Niamey and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Furthermore, the reintegration of these returnees is consistent with the objectives of Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda. They will be incorporated into various government programs, as well as the reintegration initiatives facilitated by the United Nations Migration Agency. This comprehensive approach reflects the commitment to ensuring the well-being and successful reintegration of these individuals into society.
