Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State yesterday met with his counterparts in the Southwest geo-political zone who visited him in his Ibadan, Oyo State residence amidst calls for him to resume official duty in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The visit by Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, and Mr. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti States dispelled the rumour that Akeredolu is incapacitated and could not continue in office as governor.
There have been insinuations that Akeredolu, who is the Chairman of the Southwest governors’ forum was incapacitated, hence his inability to visit Ondo State to perform his official duties.
Some people have agitated for the full disclosure of the health status of the governor while others said the House of Assembly should set up a Medical Panel comprising five medical doctors to determine if the governor could continue in office.
The opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and a faction of All Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to the embattled Deputy Governor of Ondo State have asked the Governor to either resume or resign.
But the Chief Press Secretary to Akeredolu, Richard Olatunde the governor was not incapacitated and has been performing his official duties since he returned from Germany after a medical holiday.
In a viral video made available to reporters, Akeredolu was seen among his colleague governors who came to visit him after he returned from medical leave in Germany.
A statement by Richard Olatunde, the Chief Press Secretary said: “Chairman of the Southwest Governors’ Forum and Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, on Tuesday, 24th October 2023, met with Governors from the region to discuss issues of interest.
“The Governors present at the meeting were Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Engr. Seyi Makinde of Oyo, and Mr. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti.
“Governor Akeredolu, who appreciated the Governors for their solidarity, harped on continuous collaboration among the Southwest States.
“Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde said the Forum is praying for Governor Akeredolu, adding that he has the support of all the Governors in the region.
“The Governors discussed National and other Issues affecting the region and the people.”
