The Ondo State Assembly is determined to adhere to all proper procedures in order to bring the impeachment proceedings initiated against Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to a just and conclusive resolution. It affirms that there has been no suspension of the impeachment process.
The Assembly’s commitment to seeing the impeachment process through to its logical conclusion is driven by the objective of ascertaining the accuracy of the allegations of gross misconduct leveled against Aiyedatiwa.
According to Femi Emodamori, legal counsel to the Assembly, in a statement issued in Akure, the Assembly has scrupulously adhered to the constitutional provisions that lead to the State Chief Judge’s responsibility to establish a seven-member panel for investigating the allegations, as specified in Section 188(5) of the Constitution. Emodamori further indicated that a notice of allegations of gross misconduct had been endorsed by eleven House members.
He also mentioned that the Assembly is prepared to take any necessary legal actions to nullify or dismiss the court order or the entire legal case in the Federal High Court. This action is aimed at facilitating the progression of the impeachment process, relieving the constraints placed on the Ondo Chief Judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola, and allowing the process to reach a fair conclusion.
“The general public would recall that a similar suit instituted by the same Deputy Governor on the same subject matter at the Ondo State High Court was dismissed on 10th October, 2023 for constituting an abuse of Court process, following a preliminary objection which we filed on behalf of our Client,” he said.
