Kaduna Pensioners Appeal to Governor for Timely Payment of Entitlements

The Kaduna State College of Education Retirees Association, a group representing retired educators in the state, has once again beseeched Governor Uba Sani to prioritize and expedite the disbursement of their gratuities and pension entitlements.

This heartfelt appeal was conveyed through a formal communiqué jointly signed by the Association’s Chairman, Bulus Kajang, and Secretary, Emmanuel Nkom. The document, aimed at drawing attention to the retirees’ ongoing plight, was made accessible to the media in Kafanchan, situated in the Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, over the weekend.

The retirees have not only expressed their distress but also underscored the urgency of their predicament. Their grievance revolves around the extended delay in receiving gratuities and pensions, which they have endured for a protracted period exceeding seven years.

Recognizing the gravity of their situation, the retirees have fervently requested an audience with Governor Uba Sani. This proposed meeting would provide them with an opportunity to lay bare the hardships they’ve endured and, in turn, seek effective solutions that would alleviate their plight. It underscores their continued determination to secure their well-deserved entitlements and to lead dignified lives during their retirement years.

“We wrote a letter to him in July to intimate him about how prompt benefits were paid to retirees and how the unwarranted delay in the remittance of our entitlements has exposed us to untold hardship, after giving our most productive years in service.

“Most of our members cannot meet their basic needs, such as medical or utility bills, or pay their children’s school fees, adding that they best fit the description of vulnerable persons, and appealed that government’s palliatives should be provided for them too.

“The country’s dire economic situation was taking its toll on even those with means of income, and added that it is worse on the retirees who have nothing to fall back on, and begged the Governor to authorize payment of the long overdue entitlements,” the group pleaded.
