The Lagos State Government took action on Wednesday by closing down Greater Scholars International School located in the Ajah area of the state. This decision was made in response to the defilement of a four-year-old pupil by the school’s security guard, David James, on April 27, 2023, while he pretended to be cleaning her.
James, aged 23, has already been arraigned and remanded for the offense. He faced one count of sexual assault in front of Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi of Magistrate’s Court 1, Ogba.
The victim’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Olusola, had previously called for the closure of the school on May 25, 2023, during a protest held at the school’s gate. Friends, family members, and representatives of non-governmental organizations joined the protest, demanding justice for the child and the school’s closure. Online images on Wednesday indicated that the Lagos State Ministry of Education had sealed the school.
The victim’s father, Mr Olusola, welcomed the development saying, “This means Lagos State Government is working and is willing to do the right thing. We are happy that justice will be served.”
He said the ongoing court case would resume on September 4, 2023.
