The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has urged Nigerians to remain resolute and maintain hope in the country’s future. He expressed confidence that despite the numerous challenges, Nigeria will once again achieve greatness.
In his congratulatory message on Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary, the Speaker emphasized that pessimism and doomsaying would prove unfounded. He acknowledged the challenges facing the nation but highlighted Nigeria’s potential to regain its leadership position globally, thanks to its abundant human and natural resources.
Speaker Abbas appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to reconsider their plan for an indefinite nationwide strike, especially in light of current circumstances. He believed that such a strike would exacerbate existing challenges rather than alleviate them, urging organized labor to collaborate with the government to find amicable solutions.
The Speaker emphasized the importance of dialogue between the labor unions and the government, underscoring its potential for more significant and lasting results. He also expressed concern over the brain drain affecting the country and encouraged young Nigerians to use their talents and skills to contribute to national development.
Speaker Abbas expressed confidence in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and its potential to gain the trust and support of both the youth and all citizens through innovative policies and programs.
He called for unity, support, and prayers for all levels of government and arms of government and reaffirmed the 10th House’s commitment to passing legislation that will contribute to the growth and development of the country.
