The Federal Medical Centre in Keffi, Nasarawa State, has issued a two-week ultimatum for the retrieval of nine unclaimed corpses that have remained in its mortuary for an extended duration.
This directive was communicated through a statement released by the Public Relations Officer of the medical center, Miss Esther Bature, and shared with the press in Keffi Local Government Area of the state on Friday.
Bature explained that the management of the medical center made this decision because some of the deceased individuals were brought to the hospital in the year 2021, while others arrived in 2022. Consequently, these cases exceed the legal time limit of six months for retaining unclaimed bodies.
“Consequently, members of the public who lost their loved ones during the stated period indicated herein, may please, visit the hospital’s morgue for possible identification and claim,” she added.
The PRO, therefore, reiterated that at the expiration of the two weeks deadline starting from Friday, September 22, 2023, the medical centre will be left with no other option than to give the nine corpses a mass burial.
