Police neutralise 2 robbery suspects, arrest 1 in A’Ibom

The Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom Command has reported that it neutralized two suspected armed robbers and arrested another in Uyo, the state capital.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), SP Odiko MacDon, they received a distress call on September 19, around 01:50 am, regarding an armed robbery incident in the Uyo Local Government Area. The incident occurred at Udoette School Road, UNIUYO by the Ikpa road area, Ikot Udoro, and environs.

In response to the distress call, the Quick Response Unit of the command promptly took action. Upon sighting the police, the armed robbers allegedly engaged them in a gun battle. During the exchange of gunfire, two of the suspected robbers were fatally injured, while one individual, Godswill Isaac, was arrested.

Several items were recovered from the arrested suspect, including four locally made pistols, 15 live cartridges, two expanded cartridges, a big iron cutter, two machetes, and a dagger. Additionally, two plasma televisions, one woofer MP3, one HP computer laptop, ten Android phones, five smaller phones, N15,700 in cash, and 8 dollars were recovered.

Many victims have reportedly visited the police command to identify and collect their belongings.

Furthermore, the command’s anti-kidnapping squad arrested two notorious armed robbers, Gospel Effiong (aka Python) and Solomon Okon (aka Eblem), for alleged robbery and rape. The suspects confessed to being members of a robbery gang responsible for robbing unsuspecting commuters in tricycles and minibusses in Uyo and its environs.

The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, warned criminal elements in the state to desist from their unlawful activities or be prepared to face the consequences. He emphasized the commitment of the command to maintaining the safety and security of Akwa Ibom state, pledging to continue efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
