Obaseki bars Edo Deputy Gov, Shaibu from Govt. House

The ongoing rift between Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, escalated on Monday when Governor Obaseki made the surprising decision to bar his estranged deputy from entering the Government House.

Philip Shaibu was met with an unexpected turn of events when he arrived at his office on Monday and discovered that both the entrance to the deputy governor’s office and the main access to the building were secured with chains and heavy padlocks.

In response to this, Shaibu and his team waited for approximately an hour in the hope of resolving the issue, during which time he reportedly attempted to contact Governor Obaseki but received no response.

An anonymous aide to the deputy governor shared pictures of the locked gates with the public and revealed that Shaibu had engaged with the Commissioner of Police and the Director of State Services, informing them of his predicament. Importantly, there was no official communication indicating that his office would be inaccessible.

Subsequently, Shaibu reportedly summoned the Camp Commandant at the Government House, SP Ibrahim Babatunde, to inquire about the reasons behind his exclusion from his office.

“He said it was a directive from above adding that the CSO in government house, Wabba will be in a better position to explain”, the aide said.

Shaibu was said to have put calls to Wabba Williams who promised to come to the scene, but never came all through the period Shaibu waited.
