Plateau Constituents Protest tribunals judgment against NASS Members

Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Plateau State have expressed dissatisfaction at the weekend and staged a protest over the National Assembly tribunal sitting in Jos which had nullified the election of four Lawmakers including Senator Napoleon Bali representing Plateau South, Hon. Beni Lar Member representing Langtang North and Langtang South Federal Constituency of the State, Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos Representing Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency and Hon. Peter Ibrahim Gyendeng Representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency.

Worried by the development Supporters of the PDP in three Local governments of the southern Zone namely Langtang North, Shendam and Mikang held a peaceful protest to register their displeasure over the Tribunal judgement.

It would be recalled that the national and state houses of assembly elections petition tribunal sitting in Jos, the Plateau State capital had nullified the elections of four National Assembly members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over lack of structure.

In a unanimous judgment of a three-member ber panel, Justice Mohammed Tukur ruled that the PDP candidates in the state were invalidly nominated due to no party structure in the state.

At Shendam local government area, the transition committee chairman Hon Nicholas Kemi-Nshe, while addressing protesters sued for peace, but reiterated that justice must be done to the Legislators.

On his part, PDP Chairman of Shendam Francis Tongul described the decision of the tribunal against the Lawmakers as a “Rubbery” and advocated that it should be restored by the Appeal Court while expressing confidence in the Judiciary.

Similarly  Chairman Plateau State House of  Assembly Commission and Former Deputy Speaker Plateau State Rt. Hon John-Bull Shekarau said they will patiently wait for the outcome of the Appeal court on the Judgement.

Also Speaking the PDP Chairman of Langtang North Hon. Ventim Tyem that the peaceful protester was to register their displeasure over the removal of Sen Napoleon Bali, and Hon Beni Lar, fifth-time member of the House of Representatives for Langtang North/South Federal constituency.

The transition committee chairman of Langtang North Namuwa Godwin Kumzhi in his part emphasized that the judgement against Sen Napoleon Bali and Beni Lar, won’t be accepted the by people of the Zone.

According to him, Sen Bali got 57,000 votes and won in the five local areas, he noted that the two legislators were overwhelmingly voted into office to serve the people and, therefore, should be allowed to complete their tenure.

At Mikang local government area, the PDP Chairman Peter-Tough Mankum, and the transition committee chairman Hon Daniel Kumi said their people will not accept the Judgement of Justice Muhammed Tukur who upturned the election of two of Sen Bali.

Hon Daniel revealed that the PDP won the Plateau South senatorial district during the last general election, therefore it must be given back its mandate.

The Mikang PDP Chairman had said the party would do everything possible within the law to reclaim their mandates.

However, the protest was also held in some parts of the Northern Zone where Hon. Bagos and Gyendeng represent.
