The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Lagos Chapel, has announced its plans to address the issue of drug abuse during its upcoming Press Week, which is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 25.
The theme for the 2023 edition of the Press Week, which will run from September 25 to Friday, September 29, is “Drug Abuse and Nigerian Youths; Effects and the Way Forward.”
The Press Week Organizing Committee Chairperson, Mrs. Vivian Ihechu, shared that various informative and engaging activities will be planned for the second edition of the week-long event. These activities include a road walkout, medical outreach, games, competitions, and visits to an orphanage, and an old people’s home.
The Press Week will also feature a Cultural Day on Tuesday, September 26, and a Lecture/Symposium on Thursday, September 28, at the NAN Multipurpose Media Centre, National Theatre Annex, Iganmu, Lagos.
Retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), will be the lead speaker at the Lecture/Symposium, along with other distinguished speakers. This event addresses the prevalence of drug abuse among youths and provides solutions through topical discussions.
The Press Week will be attended by various stakeholders, including security agencies, secondary school students, community leaders, and transporters. It will conclude with a media rendezvous at the NAN Media Centre on Friday, September 29.
