Pochettino places four Chelsea players on notice

Positives currently appear hard to find for Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino, however a major injury update will have undoubtedly given them a boost.

football.london understands that Chelsea are expecting to have Benoît Badiashile fit for selection for their Premier League match with Bournemouth after the international break.

The Frenchman picked up a serious hamstring injury toward the end of the 2022/23 season which saw him miss the entirety of pre-season. With the rough return date set for Badiashile and Armando Broja fast approaching, Pochettino delivered the latest on the duo ahead of the Carabao Cup clash with AFC Wimbledon.

“They won’t play tomorrow,” Pochettino said. “We need to wait until after the international break and we will see. Maybe Misha [Mykhailo Mudryk] is closer than Broja and Badiashile, but we need to assess him day by day.”

Badiashile’s extended absence therefore means the returning Levi Colwill was thrust directly into the spot light with Wesley Fofana also diagnosed with a major injury in the summer. After selling Kalidou Koulibaly, Chelsea signed Axel Disasi from AS Monaco and despite the wealth of attackers at his disposal, Pochettino has played both in every game alongside Thiago Silva.
