“A middle-aged man from Egbengwu Village in Nimo, Anambra State, was tragically swept away by a flood at Oye Nimo market in Njikoka Local Government Area. His lifeless body was discovered a day later after he inadvertently stepped into a drainage during a heavy downpour. The man, described as relatively large in build, had gone missing during the flooding incident, and his identity remained unknown to those present at the time.”
“His body was found at a place called Ogbujilekwe along the Nimo-Neni Road after intensive search,” another source added.
The incident is coming barely a week after another flood claimed two children in different locations at Nkwele Awka, in Awka South Local Government of the State.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) issued a warning about an imminent flood disaster in 19 states, including Anambra State. They stressed the importance of early and thorough preparations to prevent a repeat of last year’s widespread devastation. NEMA also urged communities in coastal areas to initiate early evacuation measures ahead of the impending flood.
Over 50 communities were swept away by flood last year in Anambra State; destroying buildings and farmlands as well as causing outbreak of cholera.
