Tenant apprehended by police for stabbing landlord in Rivers State

A middle-aged man named Patrick Essien has been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly stabbing his landlord in Rumuiprikon, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. The incident occurred on Monday.

The conflict began when the landlord, identified as Iheanyichukwu America, intervened to protect Essien’s wife from him as she was reportedly being mistreated. According to Chioma, the landlord’s wife, “Essien attempted to take his wife inside, but my husband intervened, refusing to allow it. He decided the woman would stay at his family’s house for the night, and they would address the situation in the morning. So, he moved the woman out of their house.”

At midnight, the man returned to confront the landlord while checking for his wife’s whereabouts in the landlord’s house, where she was not present.

Similarly, the landlord’s elder sister, Gladys Bardey, described the tenant’s action as an attempted murder.

She demanded that the matter be charged to court for her brother to get justice.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect (Essien) had been arrested.

Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police also said the landlord was receiving medical attention in the hospital.

“We are aware of the matter. The suspect has been arrested and he is in our custody. An investigation is still ongoing,” she said.
