Champions League: Man Utd face tough challenge, Newcastle get 'group of death'

The Champions League 2023/24 group stage draw has been concluded – and there are some incredible ties in store.

Four English clubs were in the draw, with Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle all eagerly awaiting their fate in the group stage of the competition.

It will be the final Champions League with the current format, as UEFA will switch to a new eight-game format, where all teams are in the same group, from next season.

But the current format of the group stage certainly looks set to go out with a bang.

City, as reigning champions of the competition, were drawn out in pot one. They’ll take on RB Leipzig, Red Star Belgrade and Young Boys in Group G.

Manchester United, meanwhile, face some tricky tests in Group A, as they take on Bayern Munich, Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

Arsenal are set for their first Champions League campaign in seven years, having finished second in last season’s Premier League, they have drawn Sevilla, PSV and Lens.

But the ‘group of death’ accolade was awarded to Newcastle, who are involved in one of the toughest Champions League groups in history. PSG, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan all await Eddie Howe’s side.

Celtic, meanwhile, were drawn in Group E alongside Feyenoord, Atletico Madrid and Lazio.

The full groups are as follows:

Group A – Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Copenhagen, Galatasaray

Group B – Sevilla, Arsenal, PSV, Lens

Group C – Napoli, Real Madrid, Braga, Union Berlin

Group D – Benfica, Inter Milan, Salzburg, Real Sociedad

Group E – Feyenoord, Atletico Madrid, Lazio, Celtic

Group F – PSG, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, Newcastle

Group G – Manchester City, RB Leipzig, Red Star, Young Boys

Group H – Barcelona, FC Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk, Royal Antwerp
