Hardship: Kano Govt slash tertiary institution fees by 50%

The Kano state government has in the wake of hardship, rising cost of living that greet it’s Indigents,  reduced the registration fees of the state-owned tertiary institutions by 50 percent for the indigenes of the state.

The state Commissioner for Higher Education Dr Yusuf Kofarmata stated this on Monday night while briefing with journalists at Government House, Kano.

He further explained that the decision was resolved during the meeting with the heads of tertiary institutions and the Visitor, Governor of the State Alh Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The Government took the decision considering the current economic situation created by the removal of fuel subsidy so as to alleviate the challenges facing parents due to economic hardship which is making life very difficult for the masses as a result of unimaginable inflation of essential commodities.

He said the reduction affects all Kano State indigenes studying regular courses for 2023/ 2024 academic session at institutions that include, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil (ADUSTECH), Yusuf Maitama Sule University, (YUMSUK), Kano and Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education.

Others are Kano State Polytechnic, Aminu Kano Collage of Islamic and Legal Studies, Audu Bako College of Agriculture Danbatta, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso College of Advance and Remedial Studies Tudun Wada, and Kano State College of Education and Remedial Studies (KACEPS).

He said that the decision is in line with the state government’s commitment to educational development, noting that this can be seen in the restoration of foreign scholarships for over 1,000 students which would be flagged off soonest.
