Four passengers in a Peugeot 406 narrowly missed death after the car caught fire at Old Airport Junction in Jos, Plateau state capital.
The event, which occurred approximately 6 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023, generated heavy traffic on the highway, which is Jos’ main dual carriageway.
According to reports, the traffic warden stationed at the Old Airport roundabout was forced to instantly guide vehicles off the road in order to protect other motorists.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire came from beneath the truck, making it impossible for tiny fire extinguishers to reach the cause. The fire was only extinguished when the fire department came.
“We saw the vehicle coming with smoke from under the car, the occupants did not even notice the smoke because the fire did not start from the engine. so we alerted them to stop and as they noticed the fire all of them ran out to escape,” a witness, Amos Gyang, told Daily Trust.
“The vehicle was left to burn after several motorists exhausted their fire extinguishers. The more extinguishers they poured on the vehicle, the more the flame range
“30 minutes after the incident, men of the state fire service showed up and within 10 minutes the fire was put off. But the car has substantially been destroyed by the flame.”
