Tobi Amusan, the renowned global hurdle champion, engaged in a spirited exchange with an Irish journalist during the World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary. The interaction revolved around a question posed regarding the allegations against Amusan following the women’s 100-meter hurdle heats.
Prior to the competition, Amusan had been under provisional suspension due to missing three drug tests. However, she was subsequently cleared to participate. Demonstrating her exceptional prowess, she secured her title by emerging victorious in Heat 5 with an impressive time of 12.49 seconds on Tuesday.
Following her race, Amusan engaged with the media in the mixed zone. After expressing gratitude for the unwavering support from her fans, an inquiry from Irish journalist Cathal Dennehy turned contentious, “Tobi, just on the point to the fans, I guess some of them are wondering what led to the charge. Would you be able to clarify the reasons behind that?”
“I’m talking about my fans, and you’re talking about charges. What charges?” She quizzed.
“Mr. Cathal, I am not going to answer your question. You’ve asked the same question five times now and I am not answering it. Ridiculous,” she added.
“You run fast, they want to talk about my shoes; you don’t run fast, they want to talk about what’s going on. Come on, cut me that slack,” she said.
