The African Union has scheduled a meeting for Monday to discuss the situation in Niger.
This meeting was prompted by the coup that occurred on July 26, leading to the ousting of President Mohamed Bazoum.
The Union said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that “AU’s Peace and Security Council meets to receive an update on the evolution of the situation in Niger and the efforts to address it.”
The meeting is being held at the AU headquarters in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, according to the statement.
Among the participants are AU Commission chief, Moussa Faki Mahamat, along with delegates from Niger and the West African bloc, ECOWAS.
Faki had voiced significant worry about the reported inadequate conditions of President Bazoum’s detention, deeming the treatment he received from the coup leaders “unacceptable.”
