The certificates of all private schools operating within Kano State have been immediately revoked by the state government. This announcement was delivered on a Saturday by Baba Abubakar Umar, the special adviser to the State Governor on matters concerning Private and Voluntary institutions.
In a meeting with the proprietors of these private schools, Umar conveyed that all schools must obtain new registration forms and complete them in order to receive new certificates. This action is in line with the state government’s dedication to regulating and improving the operations of private schools, ensuring their adherence to established laws and guidelines.
Umar urged the school proprietors to diligently pay their 10 percent tax to the government within the specified timeframes, emphasizing its importance in advancing the sector. He reassured me that his return to managing private schools should not be seen as an opportunity for intimidation, as he has no intention to unfairly target anyone.
He strongly stated the state’s stance on shutting down any school found violating the operational laws of the state, encompassing aspects such as equipment, operational environment, curriculum, and academic calendar. He revealed the development of software designed to address concerns from the government, school proprietors, parents, and job seekers within the private school sector.
Muhammad Malam Adamu, the Chairman of the National Association of Private School Owners in Kano State, lauded the government’s action, deeming it impressive and worthy of commendation.
