On Wednesday, various civil society organizations (CSOs), including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), gathered in Osogbo, Osun State, to express their dissent against the Federal Government’s policies that they deemed harmful to the masses and other pressing concerns.
Undeterred by the early morning rain, the protesters assembled at Freedom Park in Osogbo as early as 8 a.m., displaying banners with different inscriptions outlining their demands.
During their speeches to the protesters, the leaders of the demonstrating groups urged both the federal and state governments to take immediate action to alleviate the hardships experienced by Nigerians.
ASUU members, who also participated in the protest, specifically called upon President Bola Tinubu’s administration to address the issue of the eight-month withheld salaries of its members and implement measures to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
“We are out today to demand the abolition of all anti-mass policies by the federal government. We are saying enough about incessant Petrol price hikes.
“We are saying enough to the insecurity that is ravaging the nooks and crannies of our land. We have said enough about corruption. We have said enough about the commercialization of education. The Nigerian masses are saying enough about the incessant abuse of power,” they demanded.
They urged the authorities to address issues relating to the security and well-being of Nigerians, as this is the primary responsibility of every government.
