The Nigerian Senate will today begin the screening of the first batch of ministerial nominees by Presient Bola Tinubu.
Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, unveiled the 28 ministers-designates during a plenary session last Thursday.
According to the spokesperson for the Senate, Yemi Adaramodu, the screening of the nominees would commence today.
Those who made it to the released list included four former governors: David Umahi (Ebonyi); Nyesom Wike (Rivers); Mohammed Badaru (Jigawa), and Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna).
Other nominees are: Abubakar Momoh (Edo State); Yusuf Maitama Tuggar (Bauchi); Ahmad Dangiwa (Katsina); Hannatu Musawa (Katsina); Uche Nnaji (Enugu); Betta Edu (Cross River); Doris Uzoka (Imo); Ekperikpe Ekpo (Akwa Ibom), Nkiru Onyejiocha (Abia), Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo ( Ondo), Stella Okotete (Delta), Uju Ohaneye (Anambra), Bello Mohammed Goronyo (Sokoto), Alake (Ekiti), Lateef Fagbemi (Kwara), Mohammed Idris (Niger), Edun (Ogun), Adebayo Adelabu (Oyo), Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim (Nasarawa), Pate (Bauchi), Joseph Utsev (Benue), Abubakar Kyari (Borno), John Enoh (Cross River), and Sani Abubakar Danladi (Taraba).
The nominees had been directed to submit their credentials and as of press time more than 15 of them had done that.
Not fewer than 15 ministerial nominees had as of Sunday submitted their credentials to the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Abdullahi Gumel, ahead of screening by the National Assembly which begins today.
Some of the nominees, whose documents were spotted, included the Women Leader of the All Progressive Congress, Betty Edu; Uju Ohaneye; Tunde Ojo; Abubakar Danladi, Uche Nnaji; and former Nexim Bank, Managing Director, Stella Okotette.
Our correspondent saw Okotiette’s papers being dropped at around 6:30 pm on Sunday.
The Senate is expected to grill the nominees on various issues regarding governance and Nigerians can gain insight into the capacity of the Presient’s men.
