Breaking: : Court orders DSS to allow Kanu access to medical records, doctors

The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order to the Department of State Services (DSS) instructing them to grant Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), access to medical professionals of his choice and his medical records.

The judgment was delivered by Justice Binta Nyako on Thursday, in response to a suit filed on behalf of Kanu by his legal team, led by Mike Ozekhome (SAN). According to Justice Nyako, Kanu has the constitutional right to seek medical attention from doctors he selects, even while in custody.

However, the judge specified that any independent medical examination conducted by Kanu’s chosen medical experts should be overseen by the DSS, with the entire process recorded and sealed for security purposes.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2341/2022, was filed by Kanu, who requested that his doctors be allowed to conduct an impartial assessment to determine his actual state of health.
