President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja after attending the 5th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union (AU) in Nairobi, Kenya. He arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at approximately 4:20 pm.
President Tinubu, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Authority of the Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), participated in the meeting. He departed from Abuja on Saturday to attend the event.
During his time in Nairobi, the President collaborated with other African leaders to draft a declaration that reiterates Africa’s unity and strength while firmly rejecting any notions of a new scramble for the continent. Additionally, he showcased his dedication to strengthening the ECOWAS Standby Force, aiming to deter coups and combat terrorism in the sub-region.
At the airport, the President was received by prominent government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Chief of Staff to the President, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila; Imo Governor, Hope Uzodinnma; and former Kano State governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
