Emefiele: Nigerians ask DSS to arrest Asari Dokubo for flaunting AK47

Following the two-count charge of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition the Department of State Service, DSS, filed against suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, Nigerians have queried the security agency to arrest a former militant leader, Asari Dokubo, for flaunting AK47 rifle in a viral video.

Iwitness recalled that the FG, through the DSS accused Emefiele of possessing a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a license.

But Nigerians have expressed shock at how a CBN governor would not have a license to own a shotgun, when such a license is issued by a commissioner of police.

More curious to many Nigerians is how a former Niger Delta Militant, Asari Dokubo, brandished an AK-47 rifle and threatened to kill all Igbos, an ethnic group predominant in Nigeria’s South-east, without the DSS rounding him up or invited him for ‘chat.’

An AK47 is an assault rifle prohibited for use by anyone who is not an officer of the law.

Recall that in a video clip in June, which went viral on various social media platforms, Mr Dokubo was heard calling the Igbos “slaves”, whom he said he would have continued to “sell” if not for the intervention of the British government.

A Lagos based lawyer, Malcolm Omirhobo, tweeting with his Twitter handle, @MalcolmInfiniti, said the failure to file a similar charge against Asari Dokubo, shows the failure of the Rule of Law in Nigeria.

He said: “Tell me where is the rule of law when the FGN is charging a man for illegal  possession of a rusty Single Barrel gun found in his house & failure to charge a man in illegal possession of tons of  AK47 & GPMG which he has been flaunting in public & terrorizing other Nigerians.”
