Barcelona’s iconic stadium Nou Camp’s renovation is projected to cost £1.5 billion

The anticipated cost for the renovation of Barcelona’s iconic stadium, the Nou Camp, is approximately £1.5 billion. On Tuesday, the stadium underwent demolition, as captured images showed cranes pulling down a stand, marking the commencement of the construction work. Built-in 1957, the Nou Camp boasts a seating capacity of 99,000 spectators.

Barcelona will be temporarily relocating for the next two seasons and is expected to return to the renovated stadium in 2026.

During the 2023–24 season, Barca’s home matches will be held at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. Upon reopening, Camp Nou will feature a retractable roof and solar panels, accommodating 70 percent of its maximum capacity.

The board of directors has already agreed to a 50 percent reduction in the price of season tickets for the 2023–24 season, along with a significant decrease in the number of season tickets available.

This decision mirrors that of their rival, Real Madrid, who initiated the renovation of their stadium, the Santiago Bernabeu, in 2020. A complete reopening of the Santiago Bernabeu is expected later this year.
