We regret to inform you of the passing of veteran Nollywood actress Cynthia Okereke, who passed away on Tuesday night, 12 months after being kidnapped. Her colleague in the entertainment industry, Joseph Okechukwu, revealed that he was about to purchase her flight ticket to America when he heard the news.
It was Monalisa Chinda, the Director of Communications for the Actors Guild of Nigeria, who first broke the news of Cynthia and Clemson Cornel’s disappearance after they failed to return from a movie set in Ozalla town, Enugu state, on July 29, 2022. Fortunately, they were released after a few days in the hands of the kidnappers.
“REST IN PEACE, Nwanyi oma. I’m shattered beyond words. The fact that I was about to pay for your flight ticket to come finish what we started only to hear you went to be with the Lord just last night is one of the toughest things I’ve ever had to deal with in recent times. I pray I’m able to recover from this shock. Life is really just a mist. One minute you have it, the next you don’t.
For the more than 20 years that I’ve known you, you’ve been such an amazing, decent, and lovely soul to be around. I never imagined you’d exit so unceremoniously. Words fail me.
Sleep on, Cynthia. May your gentle soul rest on till we meet again in glory,” he wrote.
Nollywood actors have taken to social media to express their grief over the loss of Cynthia, who was well-known for her motherly roles in Epic Nigerian movies.
